WASILLA — Firefighters quickly knocked down a fire that had engulfed half of a home in the Knik-Goose Bay Road area Thursday morning.

Crews were paged to respond around 9 a.m. to the home on W. Wellington Drive in the Victoria Estates neighborhood near Mile 7, Knik-Goose Bay Road.

The initial call didn’t say if anyone was inside the structure, but Central Mat-Su Fire Chief James Steele said a neighbor told crews as they arrived that no one was home.

Crews cut at least one hole in the side of the home to make sure the fire had been extinguished. Steele said officials don’t know the cause of the fire.
