No need for knuckleheads

J's World, by Jeremiah Bartz

We recently received a letter to our office from a Colony High School volleyball parent voicing her frustration about an incident that occurred at Chugiak High School during a match on Oct. 30.

According to the parent, there was a group of Chugiak students generally harrasing the Colony players. While a slight joshing of the opposing team can be acceptable, these students were allegedly using quite colorful language from their apparent limited vocabulary. They not only chose to be vocal with these thoughts, but they also wrote some of their ideas down.

The problem was they decided to add an expletive in their slogan. The sign read "Spike that ****". I will let you figure out what the third word is. I am sure it will not be too tough to figure out.. Hey at least they spelled everything right, that should be a credit to the Chugiak School system. They apparently have passed the section on four letter words.

Anyway, the students apparently kept up their shenanigans throughout the match. The Colony captain alerted the official, and various Colony parents repeatedly made an attempt to stop the students only to be greeted by one of Chugiak's finest by the international peace sign. In other words, the dude flipped him the bird.

My biggest problem with this entire situation is someone from Chugiak High should have booted the bozos from the gym. This is not Wrigley Field or the Joe Louis Arena folks, a high school sporting event is no place for these actions.

At professional games, fans raz the goalie or harass the hitter. That is part of the game, and they are professionals. Most athletes have the maturity to deal with the problems. They also make millions of dollars to cover medical expenses if the harassment forces them to therapy.

But in this case, these are high school girls. They are confused enough. The last thing they need is for some nimrod in the stands screaming epithets at them.

Colony also has a very young team. Sophomores were being forced to put up with this.

It is just not high school girls, high school boys should not have to deal with that either. They have enough pressure balancing athletics with their studies and their hope to have a social life.

They should not have to deal with this boobery.

I did not witness this event, I am merely writing about what a parent has told us in a letter. Through my years of involvement in athletics I have witnessed many situations that are similar to what happened at Chugiak High on Oct. 30.

Spectators such as the Chugiak knuckleheads need to learn to practice tact. Apparently they lost their place in line when common sense was handed out. Until spectators like these, learn what is appropriate for a high school gym and what is not, they should not be allowed in. This entire problem could have been taken care of quickly if a representative from Chugiak High would have marched these imbeciles out of the gym.
