No refugees for the Mat-Su

To the editor,

I disagree 100 percent with the Frontiersman concerning taking in fleeing refugees from Syria, Iraq, Eritrea and others who are all of the Muslim religions, refugees to Alaska and to the Mat-Su. I do not want their diversity changing our lovely way of life as we know it now.

We all speak English and recognize each other as fellow Americans with respect and trust for each other. The Frontiersman wants to disrupt our good American way of life, especially our Alaskan way of life. We feel safe in our homes and our jobs but refugees bring with them different values not in line with American values. Many of them are violent.

Frontiersman editor Matt Tunseth seems to think we should take in whole neighborhoods of Muslims and all that goes with them – tall towers and horns that call to prayers and closed areas where it not safe to go except Muslims.

I do not want nor agree that we need them for any reason. They will never embrace our way of life. Their diversity is something I will never accept. They want welfare, free food and homes and most of all medical care. I do not believe they add to the economy. The Mat-Su needs jobs for us Alaskans, not foreigners.

I see no reason to take them in and many reasons for not taking them in. We have many Alaskans who have no job in the winter because so many jobs are seasonal. I think of the drain on welfare resources to care for the extra refugees that should go to care for good Alaskans who really do contribute to the economy.

Not all of them are fleeing war. They want the American largess. They don’t have guts to fight for their own country over there, so they would never fight for an adopted country over here.

I see no advantage for their culture, language nor traditions. I do not want the resources of the Mat-Su Valley shared with them who would do us no good in return. Think of the impact on our schools.

When no one uses the Food Bank of Alaska, no homeless children are in need of homes, no senior is in need of health care or other assistance, no unemployed are looking for jobs, maybe then we can use a few refugees.
