No sales tax unless no property tax

To the editor:

In my opinion, property tax is theft and an abomination. Worse, however, is property tax and a borough sales tax.

I could support a borough sales tax only if it eliminates completely the borough property tax. Such a proposal would need clear, precise and unmistakable wording in the ordinance and a specific statement of intent.

If the proposed borough sales tax is enacted, I will pay more taxes. I will pay more in sales tax than I will save on my property tax. The increased taxes I’ll pay will fund more government and reduce the property tax of those who own the most expensive properties in the borough. This includes those who don’t even live here and will pay not one penny in sales tax.

Should we increase the tax burden on the least affluent and those on fixed incomes, such as our senior citizens, in order to give relief to the most affluent? I think not.

Dr. Frankenboro wants to remove the one large leech that is living off my life’s blood and replace it with two smaller leeches which, combined, will extract even more from me. I stand opposed.

The preceding is, of course, my opinion. My opinion and four quarters will get you a dollar, or in this case, 97 cents.
