American Red Cross of Alaska invites Alaskans to recognize the heroes among us. They may be family members, friends, coworkers — or perhaps strangers — whose good deeds you read about in the newspaper or heard about on the evening news.
A hero can be someone who bravely acts in a time of immediate need or someone who simply lives his or her life in a way that shows they care for those around them. Heroes are ordinary people whose actions demonstrate the potential that is in all of us.
“If someone is a hero in your eyes, we encourage you to submit a nomination,” said Katie Bender, director of development and marketing.
Each year the American Red Cross of Alaska recognizes extraordinary Alaskans for their outstanding contributions to their communities at its Annual Real Heroes Breakfast.
How to nominate a hero
• The act of heroism must be ongoing or have occurred in Alaska between Jan. 1, 2011, and Dec. 31, 2011.
• All nominees must be residents of Alaska.
• Nominees selected for recognition must be present at the event in Anchorage on April 24.
• Nominate a hero by visiting tinyurl.com/7odfj5h or contact Katie Bender at BenderK@usa.redcross.org, (907) 646-5412.
