WASILLA — Longtime driver Mike Thomas is among a half-dozen to win track championships at North Star Speedway last week.
Thomas capped the 2009 summer racing season with 2,141 total points and ends the year as the No. 1 driver in the legends class.
Thomas, who won the feature race during the final edition of the track’s GCI Saturday Night Thunder for the summer, finished 23 points ahead of second-place Eddie Landes.
Even though Landes finished second in the legends class, he did claim a North Star title. With 1,128 points, Landes won the season points championship in the baby grands.
Larry Theobald finished second in the baby grands with 1,028 points.
Alex Schwochert and his No. 22 car stayed ahead of Jim Menard and won the points championship in the mini stocks. Schochert finished with 2,250 total points, 111 ahead of Menard.
In the thunderstocks, Keith Jones finished first with 2,067 points. Tim Workman was the top driver in the bandoleros with 2,067 points.
