Northern Lights Conference Championships: Trio of Valley athletes win multiple region titles

SOLDOTNA - A trio of Mat-Su Valley athletes won multiple region titles during the Northern Lights Conference Championships at Skyview High School in Soldotna this weekend.

Colony's Matt Jaronik and Taylor Stewart, and Wasilla's John Knowles each won two events.

Jaronik, the defending state champion in the 400, won both the 200- and 400-meter events. Stewart, a freshman, won the long jump and triple jump for the Knights.

Knowles swept the boys' throwing events.

Palmer's John Scoresby (100), Houston's Dustin Dodds (300 hurdles) and Colony's Gaynor Johansen (discus) also won events. The Colony girls were first in the 3,200-meter relay.

Kenai won the girls team title in the meet, while Kodiak finished first in the boys standings. Wasilla was the top Valley squad, finishing third in both the boys and girls clasxses.
