Not helping by encouraging behaviors

To the editor:

I was left extremely saddened when I read opinion pieces in this newspaper encouraging people in the practices of homosexuality and same-sex marriage.

While God loves all people, he makes it very clear in his word that the above-mentioned practices are among many that are against his will: “Those who indulge in sexual sin, or who worship idols, or commit adultery, or are male prostitutes, or practice homosexuality, or are thieves, or greedy people, or drunkards, or are abusive, or cheat people — none of these will inherit the Kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:9-10, New Living Translation).

We are not helping people by encouraging them in any of these behaviors, no matter how accepted and popular they become or how much we want them to feel good about themselves. We should be expending our efforts for people’s ultimate good and helping them to find peace with God, not unwittingly leading them to an eternity separated from him.
