Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Dr. H. Darrell Lance, Professor Emeritus of Old Testament Interpretation at Colgate Rochester Divinity School in Rochester, N.Y., will speak at Church of the Covenant in Palmer on Tuesday, Sept. 16, at 7 p.m. on the subject "The Bible and Homosexuality."
Lance currently serves as editor of The InSpiriter, an influential national Baptist publication. He is a popular speaker on homosexuality and Bible interpretation.
After completing his doctorate at Harvard, Lance taught for 28 years at the Baptist-related Colgate Rochester Divinity School. His further studies were facilitated by Fulbright and Guggenheim Fellowships. He served as the associate director of the Hebrew Union College-Harvard Semitic Museum excavations at Tell Gezer in Israel for eight seasons and is the author, co-author, or co-editor of the five volumes of reports and evaluations of that excavation. He taught at the Albright Institute in Jerusalem and was for many years the co-editor of The Biblical Archaeologist.
Church of the Covenant is an American Baptist Church. Their meeting house is located at 415 S. Bailey Street in downtown Palmer. The Rev. Howard Bess is the pastor of the church.
In making the announcement of Dr. Lance's visit and lecture, Bess commented "Every church body in America is being forced to face the issue of gay people and their place in communities of faith. Dr. Lance's visit to Palmer could not be more timely."
