Elnora F. Sensmeier

Elnora F. Sensmeier, 91, died of congestive heart failure Nov. 11, 2006, at her Eagle River home with her family and pets.

Visitation will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at the Eagle River Church of God, 17108 Hanson Drive.

Services will follow at noon with the Rev. Bobby Jones officiating.

Pallbearers will include Ray Williams, Bruce Williams, Bobby Henson, Shad White and Daniel Chapman.

Burial is scheduled for 1 p.m. Monday, Nov. 20, 2006, at Sacred Heart Cemetery, Mile 2.5 Edland Drive off Knik-Goose Bay Road in Wasilla. An additional celebration of life will held in the summer of 2007.

She was born Aug. 30, 1915, to Eary and Edna Pauley in Charleston, W.V., where she graduated from high school. She worked at Sears in West Virginia as an alterations manager, and moved to Anchorage in 1964 where she worked for Sears from 1966 to 1970. She later worked as the alterations manager at Nordstrom from 1970 to 1977.

She had been a member of Advent Christian Church in West Virginia, Bethel Chapel in Anchorage and First Baptist Church of Eagle River.

She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Her family said she was the best pie maker and cook.

Her family also wrote that she &#8220loved family, grandchildren and pets. She loved helping others and was very giving to others in need. She was very selfless in her generosity and gave to her church and neighbors regularly. Churches loved when she cooked pastries for them.”

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Naomi and Dan Neisinger of Eagle River; grandsons, Michael Chapman and Daniel Chapman of Wasilla, Raymon Williams of Eagle River, Jeffrey Williams of Hawaii, Bruce Williams and wife Barbara of Chugiak, Davied Williams of Anchorage, Robert Lee Chapman of Oxnard, Calif., Richard Chapman of Charleston, W.V.; granddaughters, Arlena Chapman of Hanford, Calif., Earlena Davis and husband Glenn of Arizona; great-grandchildren, Debra, Stacy and Makai Chapman, Judge and Luke Chapman, Salena and Charles Davis and Daniel Williams, all of Wasilla, Joey Davis of Oregon and Amy Davis of Arizona, Douglas James of Oklahoma, Joanna, Kristina and Jeffrey Williams of Chugiak; great-great-grandchildren, Chloe, Owen, Quinn and Alyle; sister-in-law, Jean Pauley of Orlando, Fla.; and daughter-in-law, Millie Chapman of Wasilla.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Elsworth Pauley and Ervien Pauley; sisters, Evene Cavender and Earnestine Long; sons and daughter-in-law, A. E. Jack Chapman, Robert Chapman, Harold and Helen Chapman; and granddaughter, Junia Davis.

Allan William MacFarland

Allan William MacFarland, 57, died Nov. 15, 2006, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer.

A memorial service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at the Crossroads Community Church - southwest building. Phil Markwardt will officiate.

He was born March 31, 1949, in Glasgow, Scotland, completing three years of college there before coming to Alaska.

He resided in Kenny Lake from 1976-1980 before moving to Wasilla.

He was a worship leader affiliated with Crossroads Community Church, and was involved with Blood & Fire Worship Ministries.

He enjoyed music, riding his Harley, sailboating, computers, ministry and family.

&#8220Allan was a humble man who loved the lord and wanted to tell everyone he met about that,” his family wrote.

&#8220He was a beloved husband, father, and worship-team leader. When the sun was shining, Allan's favorite place to be was on his Harley with the sun on his face and the wind at his back. He had a wide circle of friends that included everyone he met.”

He is survived by his wife, Cherime of Wasilla; daughters, Heather MacFarland, Amber Le and Marilie MacFarland, all of Portland, Ore.; and son-in-law, Ahan Le of Portland; stepdaughter, Colleen Williams of Roseberg, Ore.; stepson, Sean Gallatin of Anchorage; stepdaughter, Heather Gallatin-Baker of Palmer and her husband John Baker; brother, Robert MacFarland of Turlinga, Texas; and several grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Margaret and William MacFarland; and son, Robert MacFarland.

His ashes will be scattered in his homeland at Loch Loman, Scotland.

Robert ‘Nick' Nicky Reamer

Robert &#8220Nick” Nicky Reamer, 50, died Oct.18, 2006, at the Bowen Motel in Moab, Utah, of a stroke.

A memorial service will be 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at the Kehl's Palmer Mortuary chapel, 209 S. Alaska St., Palmer.He was born Jan. 29, 1956, in Anchorage. He graduated from Chugiak High School and he studied heavy diesel mechanics at the University of Anchorage Alaska.

He was in the U.S. Army

in 1974.

He was a lifelong Alaska resident, living primarily in Anchorage other than when he lived in Eagle River from 1973-1974. He moved to Utah in 2003. He worked in Xtreme Drilling and was a former school bus driver for Anchorage Church. He enjoyed picking up children to take them to Sunday school.

He enjoyed camping, hiking and fishing with family and friends.

He enjoyed hunting for fossils and old bottles, star gazing and watching meteor showers. He was willing to help people get their cars running and in good working order.

He also enjoyed reading and was always ready to lend a helping hand.

His family wrote, &#8220Nick will always be remembered for always lending a helping hand and a warm smile and his honesty about his feelings and thoughts in any given situation. It's not a matter of the years a man has been around, or the trail of life he chose to take, but it's the things he does for everyone that makes a man so great.”

He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Reamer in 1999; and by his brother ,Danny Reamer in 1975.

He is survived by his mother, Pearl Reamer; brothers, Earl, Gary, Steve, Ken, Mark and Kevin Reamer; sister, Anne Reamer; aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews.

His ashes will be scattered over Hatcher Pass at a later date.

Arrangements are with Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.

Betty Lu Safford-Kjar

Betty Lu Safford-Kjar, 53, died Nov. 5, 2006, in the home her husband built for her in Talkeetna.

A celebration of life potluck will be noon Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at the VFW post in Talkeetna.

A funeral service will be held at a later date in Corrigan, Texas.

She was born Jan. 5, 1953, in Houston.

She was a U.S. Air Force 100 percent-disabled veteran since 1976.

She began her Alaska residency in 1984, living in

Talkeetna.

She was the former president of the VFW ladies auxiliary, and was affiliated with the Red Hat Ravens, American Legion, Am Vets, and the Valley Women's Resource Center.

Her family wrote, &#8220Betty loved life, loved her family, loved her home and loved her community. She was a fighter, not only for herself but for anyone in need. Above all, she was a patriot. There was always a meal on the table for anyone who entered her door. She handled life with a smile and a big stick.”

She is survived by her beloved husband of 17 years, Richard Kjar; daughter and son-in-law, Dawn and John Jennewine of Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Tanya and Danny Acklin of Louisiana; stepdaughter, Stephanie Milne of Oregon; stepson and daughter-in-law, Paul and Heather Kjar of Colorado; stepson, Andy Kjar of Oregon; grandchildren, Justin, Brittany, Alyson, John, James, Destiny, Dawlton, Maya and Eva.

She also is survived by her mother, Vivian Safford, four sisters and three brothers.

Arrangements were with Kehl's Palmer Mortuary.

Gordon Lee ‘Corky' Aklestad

Gordon Lee &#8220Corky” Aklestad, 65, born July 7, 1941, left his hometown of Palmer and his beloved family to be with the angels Nov. 13, 2006, following a sudden illness.

He was born and raised in Palmer, and went on to have a successful career in the auto parts industry with APEC and NAPA for 40 years. He was best known for his commitment to his family, his success in business, and his wide array of hobbies, including flying, restoring old cars, going to the family cabin, motorhome trips, visiting, staying busy with more projects that most people can get done in a lifetime, and spending time with his many friends and family on a daily basis.

He was a devoted family man who would never say no when asked for help, and while arthritis made many tasks difficult, there is not a person who can say they ever heard him complain about that or anything else, his family wrote. He had a genuine interest in helping others &#8220whether directly or indirectly,” and people always knew that, if they called, he would answer with his generosity, his kind heart, or to offer advice. He was a mentor, a role model and a friend to so many.

His community service could be seen in his commitment to the Palmer chapters of both the Moose and Elks lodges. He was always extremely generous when asked to help with any charity or fund-raiser that supported his community, his family wrote.

He will be sincerely missed by family and friends from all over the country.

He is survived by his wife and best friend of 41 years, Jane; mother, Lorraine Hermon; stepfather, Fritz Hermon; brother, Ronald Aklestad (Judy); sister, Karen McNeese (Jimmie); son, Darren Aklestad (Christine) of Katy, Texas; daughter, Lisa Peterson (Eric) of Seattle; son, Grant Dunnigan (Susie) of Palmer; grandchildren, Laurel, Gunnar, Kai and Hannah; and many nieces and nephews.

A celebration of his life will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006, at the Palmer Moose Lodge. Memorial donations may be directed to the Arthritis Foundation and Boy Scouts of America.

S. Egbert

Lela (Adeline) S. Egbert, 82, died Nov. 13, 2006, at Mat-Su Regional Medical Center in Palmer due to heart failure. A service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 17, 2006, at Benny Sena's house, 5011 Kainna Ave., Wasilla.

She was born Sept. 5, 1924, in Durango, Col.

She completed the 10th grade in Lovel, Wyo. In 1981, she moved to Alaska. S

he lived in Anchorage, and then spent the rest of her life in Wasilla.

She was a master seamstress for movie studios in Hollywood, she was employed by Kashim as a pastry cook, worked at Safeway in the bakery and retired from Safeway in 1986.

She was affiliated with the Catholic Church.

Some hobbies she enjoyed were sewing, and caring for grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Her family stated, &#8220She loved to cook for family, loved to take care of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, loved her independence.”

She is survived by her son, James Egbert of Wasilla; son, Kenny Ray Egbert of Madera, Calif.; sister, Sophie Adams of Winchester, Ken.; sister, Teresa Shehaw of Flint, Mich.; sister, Marie Mounce of Chakta, Okla.; brother, Raymond Sena of Eagle River; brother, Benny Sena of Wasilla; brother Willie Sena of Wasilla; brother, Floyd Sena of Wasilla; grandson, Michael Egbert of Holister, Calif.; grandson, Mark Egbert of Wasilla; grandson, Ronnie Egbert of Holister; grandson, Tony Egbert of Wasilla; granddaughter, Kristan Reynolds of Wasilla; granddaughter, April Egbert of Madera; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary; father, Soloman; sister, Vicki Reasch; and brothers, Chris Ivan, Roger Herman and Junior

Memorial donations can be made to the Children's Hospital at Providence in Anchorage.

Her ashes will be scattered in Santa Maria, Calif.
