November is Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month

November is Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month in Alaska.

It is estimated that more than 6,000 Alaskans are living with Alzheimer’s disease or related dementia. In 2010, an estimated 30,000 family caregivers provided more than $420 million worth of unpaid care in Alaska. Alzheimer’s affects not only individuals diagnosed, but also, their families, friends and communities.

Quality care and programs are available and promising developments in research are being made. The Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska encourage all residents to become educated about the disease, reach out to those living with the repercussions of the disease, encourage and support family members caring for loved ones with the disease, as well as remember those who have been lost to Alzheimer’s.

The Alzheimer’s Resource of Alaska has planned classes, memory screenings, open houses and events statewide during November.
