Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Mary E. Rideout, 76, died March 7, 2000, at Valley Hospital.
In accordance with her wishes, no funeral services will be held. Her cremains will be scattered over Pioneer Peak.
Mrs. Rideout was born Dec. 8, 1923, in Montana, to Seth E. and Doris (Bogue) Simms. She came to Alaska in 1963, and resided in the Butte area near Palmer.
She was primarily a homemaker, but had worked outside the home as a cook and in accounting.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clint Rideout, in 1977; son, Charles Walker, in 1963, and grandson, Donald Walker, in 1998.
She is survived by her sons, Seth E. Walker, of Wasilla, and John W. Walker, of New Mexico; granddaughter, Melissa, of Oceanside, Md., and stepsons, Ken Rideout, of Palmer, and Lyle Evert, of Minnesota.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory of Wasilla.
