Longtime Willow resident Josephine Dora Springer, 88, died March 22, 2000, at Providence Alaska Medical Center, following an illness of several months.

A Mass of Christian burial was held March 29 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wasilla, with Archbishop Francis Hurley as celebrant.

Burial followed at the Wasilla Aurora Cemetery. Pallbearers were Rob Speight, Bernard Nelsen, Robert Anselm, Forrest Richey and Ray Lizott.

Honorary pallbearers were Emil Stansic, Mark Anselm and Michael Barner.

Mrs. Springer was born July 7, 1911, in Jamestown, N.D., to J. Lewis and Elise J. (Siebold) Tevas. She was married Nov. 2, 1938, in Aberdeen, S.D., to Homer F. Springer. They came to Alaska in 1952, and resided in Anchorage until 1958. They lived in Dillingham from 1958 to 1963, and in Willow since 1963.

Mrs. Springer had been employed as a registered nurse at the old Providence Hospital in Anchorage, and she formerly worked at the Willow Post Office, from which she retired in 1977.

She was a member of St. Christophers Catholic Church in Willow.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
