Retiring teacher, coach urges Colony grads to ‘find their 68’

Palmer resident Kent B. Smith, 60, died Oct. 25, 2000, at his home in Palmer.
A memorial service will be 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 1, 2000, at the Farm Loop Christian Center, Mile 1 Farm Loop Road.
Mr. Smith was born Sept. 26, 1940, in San Angelo, Texas. He began his Alaska residency in 1961. He had worked as a guide and park ranger, owned his own lodge, and ministered in India, Mexico, Costa Rica, Honduras, and many small Alaskan villages.
He was also the author of three books, and was working as a missionary at Farm Loop Christian Center.
His special interests were flying, fly fishing, outdoor activities, running, free diving, tennis and Bible study.
His family said: Kent was a man of many gifts who served the Lord and his family with all of his heart. He helped countless people during his lifetime. We will treasure memories of our beloved husband, father and grandfather and know that he is rejoicing with the Father in heaven.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife, Martha Smith; daughters and sons-in-law, Christine and Daniel Schorr, and Joanna and Ramiro Garza; grandchildren, Sheila and Tim Schorr.
Arrangements were made by Valley Funeral Home & Crematory of Wasilla.
