To the editor:
I empathize with the frustration of the Occupy Wall Street folks, but feel they are slightly misdirected. For one, what needs to be “occupied” is Congress. Did you read how many millionaires are in Congress? Using Newt Gingrich as an example, he couldn’t legally become a lobbyist, so he became an “adviser” instead. I understand that was about $2 million worth of advising.
Then, there’s the Supreme Court. It struck down a federal ban on videos that show graphic violence against animals as “freedom of speech” (re: “High court voids law on animal cruelty,” in the April 21, 2010, ADN), search warrants are no longer required if the police can hear you flushing evidence down the toilet and corporations are now able to contribute to elections anonymously and with no limits or accountability.
Movetoamend.org is trying to do something about the last one. According to its website, it plans to occupy the U.S. Supreme Court in Washington, D.C., Jan. 20, 2012.
Lastly, let’s occupy the planet. I, personally, am tired of the power elite destroying our Earth for their profit.
