Valley Community for Recycling Solutions held its sixth annual fundraising OCEAN luncheon Feb. 21 at Evangelo’s restaurant. This year’s theme was friendships symbolized by handmade friend “ships” created from recycled material. Thank you to our friends at BP for generously sponsoring the 2013 luncheon.
Five fashionably recycled outfits from the Valley Arts Alliance’s Wearable Art Show were modeled for the OCEAN attendees while the “loot” gathered from each of the 20 tables was quickly counted by volunteers.
The models presented awards to the top three money-giving tables. First place went to The Friends of Janet Kincaid, second place to The Friends of Linda Sloan and third place went to both UPS Store No. 3548 and Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. The awards were clever works of art made from old CDs and DVDs. First prize was in the shape of a fish, a fine catch for the winner!
Thank you to all our fantastic table hosts for making this year’s OCEAN luncheon a successful fundraiser and joyous celebration of our friends and partners: Alaska USA, Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., BP, city of Palmer, city of Wasilla, ConocoPhillips, First National Bank, IBEW, Palmer Lions Club, Knik Tribal Council, Mat-Su RC and D, MEA, MTA, MVFCU, Renewable Energy Systems, The Friends of Janet Kincaid, The Friends of Linda Sloan, UPS Store No. 3548, and Wells Fargo.
A big thank you to our friends the Valley Arts Alliance for providing entertainment, the incredible money counting volunteers for doing the numbers, our techy extraordinaire Kevin Brown for the smooth audio and visuals, and our special emcees and co-hosts Janet Kincaid and Randi Perlman for leading us through another fine OCEAN luncheon.
