RICHARD H. KELPE

Palmer resident Richard Harold Kelpe, 72, died Oct. 14, 2006, from heart disease complicated by terminal lung cancer, at his son's home in Palmer, in the care of his son, daughter and family.

Services were Monday, Oct. 16, 2006, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer, with the Rev. Jonathan Rockey officiating. Interment followed at the Palmer Pioneer Cemetery. Pallbearers were Kenneth Kelpe, Jason Collins, David Williams, Robert L. Williams, Ray Hurt and Joe Trost.

He was born Aug. 13, 1934, in St. Louis, Mo. He was a communications technician in St. Louis for 20 years. He came to the Matanuska-Susitna Valley in 1978.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Palmer, where he served on the board of trustees, was a avid bowler in various leagues between Anchorage and the Valley, was a 28-year volunteer fireman, and was a volunteer emergency ambulance driver.

His family said, &#8220Richard Kelpe's strong spirit was an example of dedication and perseverance. His volunteer work at St. John's Lutheran Church and the Butte Volunteer Fire Department was unwavering for the past 20 years. Through this time, he survived two open-heart surgeries, living 10 years past the second and 10 years past the loss of his wife, Shirley E. Kelpe, to metastatic breast cancer.

Though he enthusiastically enjoyed years of camaraderie and competition in various bowling leagues to which he was very committed, nothing brought a more joyful smile to his face than spending the last six months of his life getting to know his new grandson, Sawyer J. Kelpe.”

Survivors are his daughter, Cynthia L. Collins; son, Kenneth C. Kelpe; sister, Marion D. Hurt; brother-in-law, W. Ray Hurt; grandson, Sawyer J. Kelpe; son-in-law, Jason P. Collins; and daughter-in-law, Nicole Kelpe.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley E. Kelpe; and sister, Helen Louise Roschke.

Lifelong Alaskan, Scott Haylor, 46, died Oct. 12, 2006, at his Palmer home, with family by his side.

He was born in Alaska on March 8, 1960, and resided in Alaska most of his life. He worked as a general contractor.

Survivors are his wife, Sara and son, Nicholas, both of Palmer; stepchildren, Nicola Morris of Bartlett, Tenn., Dawn Mock of Las Vegas and Hanna Bowler of Bellingham, Wash.; stepfather, James Tharp; sister, Jayme Lane of Maui; and brothers, Rick Haylor of Maui, Bill Haylor of Anchorage and Brett Haylor of Bailey, Colo.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Jacqueline Watson; and his father, William Haylor.

Kathy Jean Reynolds

Talkeetna resident Kathy Reynolds, 55, died Oct. 14, 2006, at the Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Col., with her husband and son by her side.

A celebration of Kathy's life will be Sunday, Oct. 22, 2006, at Susitna Valley High School at Mile 98 Parks Hwy. A public viewing will at 12:30 p.m. with a funeral service at 2 p.m. The Rev. Neal Biloff will officiate. A potluck dinner will follow the service. Flowers are welcome.

She was born Aug. 27, 1951, in Fort Polk, La., to Patrick and Shirley Quinlan. She lived in Jackson, Mich., until moving with her family to Alaska in 1976. She lived in Talkeetna for the past 30 years. She worked for Bunker and Bunker school bus contractors until her health prevented it. She was a member of the Sunshine Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Talkeetna. Her hobbies included oil painting, skiing, hiking, traveling and flying with her son.

Her family wrote, &#8220Kathy was a loving, caring and kind person to everyone that had the opportunity to be a part of her life. She was a strong person and an inspiration to many, even though she had many physical challenges in her lifetime. She will be remembered for her amazing smile, her generosity and her fun spirit. We could not have asked for a better wife, mother, sister, daughter and grandmother. We miss her deeply, but she lives in our hearts until we see her again.”

She is survived by her husband, Jon Reynolds; daughter, Kerrie Reynolds; son and daughter-in-law, Kirk and Colleen Reynolds; grandsons, Kyle Reynolds, Rayne Aukongak and Noah Saccheus; sisters and brothers-in-law, Becky and Russ Merrills, and Sue and Don Cropsey; brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Kathy Quinlan; her mother, Shirley Quinlan; and many nieces and nephews, extended family and treasured friends.

She was preceded in death by her father, Patrick Quinlan.

Olga Doreen

Simeonoff

Olga Doreen Simeonoff, 47, died Oct. 11, 2006, at Providence Hospital in Anchorage of natural causes.

A visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St. Innocent Orthodox Cathedral in Anchorage, with the service to follow at 11 a.m. The Rev. John Zabinko will officiate.

Pallbearers will be Aaron Simeonoff, Davis Eluska, Arthur Kompkoff, David Eluska, Sr., Gary Rozelle and Nick Peterson.

She was born May 30, 1959, in Kodiak. She lived in Akhiok for 24 years, Kaguyak for about three years, Kodiak for two years, and in Anchorage. She worked as a pre-school teacher and was a homemaker.

She enjoyed playing bingo, taking steam baths, watching her grandchildren, visiting friends and family, berry picking and car rides.

Her family wrote, &#8220Her smile and laughter will be greatly missed by whom all she was around.”

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Simeonoff, Sr.; son, Simmie Simeonoff; father, Simmie Alexanderoff; and grandfather Walter, Melovedoff.

She was survived by her mother, Makrena Peterson and stepfather, Lawrence Peterson; her children, Robert and daughter-in-law Stephaine Simeonoff, Lavada and fiancé Arthur Kompkoff, and Joleen Simeonoff; grandchildren, Aaron, Troy, Janene, Breanna and Robert III Simeonoff, and Sean, Janessa and Sharissa Simeonoff; sisters, Lula and brother-in-law David Eluska, Martha and brother-in-law Gary Rozelle, Sr., Bertha Williams, and Priscilla and brother-in-law Nick Peterson; numerous aunts, extended family members, cousins, nieces and nephews.
