Of headlights and license plates

To the editor:

It never ceases to amaze me at this time of year the number of vehicles with only one functioning headlight. Moose are a lot easier to see with two headlights! And since most all of us just received our PFDs, there should be no excuse for not properly equipping your vehicle. How much can a headlight cost?

When I am stopped at traffic lights, it also amazes me how many people are driving with expired plates. And if they are expired, they probably don’t have current insurance on that vehicle either. Heaven help those who are involved in traffic accidents when the vehicles causing them are not licensed properly or uninsured. Isn’t it the law to have both current?

Maybe if our police and state troopers paid more attention, they could issue tickets for these minor offenses and make our roads a little safer to travel, not to mention the money their coffers would make from the fines paid by these offenders.
