PALMER -- Palmer legislator Scott Ogan was listed in critical condition at an Anchorage hospital earlier this week after having a heart attack at his Palmer home on Saturday afternoon.
The republican representative was back in his hometown to accept the Alaska Outdoor Council's "Legislator of the Year" award when the heart attack occurred in the early afternoon, according to Linda Hay, his legislative chief of staff. He was taken to Valley Hospital in palmer and then transported by medical evacuation helicopter to Providence Alaska Medical Center, a hospital spokeswoman said.
Ogan is now in Providence's coronary care unit, where his condition is being continually monitored and where his physicians are assessing the most appropriate course of treatment. His prognosis and expected recovery time are yet unknown.
His wife, Janet, and their two children have asked well-wishers to offer their prayers on his behalf but to refrain from calling or sending flowers to his hospital room or their family home. Those wishing to send cards or letters may address them to Rep. Scott Ogan, State Capitol, Juneau AK 99801-1182.
Ogan represents House district 27, which includes Palmer, Sutton, Chickaloon and Sheep Mountain.
