PALMER — The host Peninsula Oilers found a way to steal a win during the final day of a five-game series against the Mat-Su Miners Sunday afternoon in Kenai.
Chad Bible used a walk-off single to lift the Oilers to a 6-5 win over the Miners. Evan Berkley, who drew a lead-off walk in the bottom of the ninth, scored on the play. It capped six unanswered runs for the Oilers, who trailed 5-0 in the second.
Despite the loss, Mat-Su left Kenai with a three-game lead at the top of the Alaska Baseball League standings. The Miners return home with a 19-11 record. Mat-Su was 3-2 during the five-game set in Kenai.
Aaron Walters drove in four of Mat-Su’s five runs in the loss. Walters singled in the first, and Kona Quiggle and Caleb Van Blake scored to give the Miners the early lead. Quiggle and Van Blake scored on another Walters single in the second to push Mat-Su’s lead to 5-0. Walters and Tyler Bosetti led Mat-Su with two hits each.
The Miners return to host the Anchorage Glacier Pilots Monday at 7 p.m. at Hermon Brothers Field in Palmer.
