On tearing down statues

Here we go again. ISIS destroyed thousands of years of historical statues and temples in their attempt to erase history. Now those of like mind have followed their example in America, but they must have flunked history in school. Not only was Ulysses S. Grant not a racist, he fought to free the slaves against the pro-slavery army at the cost of thousands of his troops lives. Before the war and his life as a military general, he was poor and worked in the fields alongside the slaves and sold firewood. He used his meager savings to buy the freedom of a slave friend.

Teddy Roosevelt never kept slaves or killed any Indians. And now in Alaska they want to remove the statue of Secretary of State William Seward who purchased Alaska from Russia. Not only was he not a racist, he was slashed in the head with a knife by the assassination crew who killed Abraham Lincoln at the same time because he was part of Lincoln’s campaign to end slavery. He survived and suffered a permanent disability for the rest of his life.

So before you try to candy coat history again, do your homework first, man bun. What’s next? The statue of Balto at the Palmer visitor center?
