Against a backdrop of fall colors, members of Motorcar Operators West, above, travel along the tracks through Wasilla Thursday afternoon. The group is comprised of 70 participants and 29 restored railroad motorcars, also known as track speeders, that were used by track inspectors and work crews to move quickly between work sites. The nonprofit organization will spend nine days on the track from Seward to Fairbanks. For a closer look at the restored rail cars, the group will stop at the Museum of Alaska Transportation and Industry Sept. 18. At left, a 1983 TMC-2 Tamper speeder.
