I had truely believed that I must be going bonkers before I read Edward Mamet’s column on Troopergate (Oct. 24 Mat-Su Valley Frontiersman). For the life of me I couldn’t see how Gara, French, Branchflower and many others could not wonder, for even a minute, how Wooten could still be wearing a Trooper uniform.
Without even taking into account the issues the Palins have with this trooper, there is sufficent cause to have sent him packing long ago. Monegan should also have been sent packing a long time before he was for not doing his job and letting Wooten stay on the job, and by doing so giving the general public reason to look at every trooper with suspect and doubt.
The union representation isn’t doing the rest of the troopers in the state any favors by either by sticking by Wooten in all these charges. You get one bad apple in the group and the rest have to work twice as hard to build up the trust and respect of the public.
Just my opinion.
