WASILLA - A Big Lake man flying an experimental aircraft is dead following a crash near Aviation Avenue on Thursday afternoon around 3:30 p.m. The pilot, 61-year-old John Hutchison of Big Lake was declared dead following the crash. Wasilla Police said that Aviation Avenue would remain closed for hours until National Transportation Safety Board personnel accident response team could respond. Wasilla Police officers on scene confirmed that fire and medic personnel had been on scene as of 4 p.m., as well as initial NTSB personnel. John The experimental aircraft had only one occupant, and a Wasilla Police Officer observed the aircraft takeoff and attempt to return to the airport after losing power. The plane crash landed on the side of Aviation Avenue. This is a developing story.
