MEADOW LAKES — A house fire left at least one person homeless Wednesday morning in Meadow Lakes, authorities said.
Firefighters responded to the house along Amber Circle about 10:30 a.m. for a reported fire. Nobody was home when they arrived, and smoke and heated air visibly rose from the one-story structure, said deputy director for the borough Department of Emergency Services Ken Barkley. A neighbor called 911, and authorities were able to reach the property owner’s son via phone.
Scorching was visible on the outside of the front of the house, and a hole had been cut into the roof by about 11 a.m. Red Cross officials responded to the scene to provide emergency shelter, Barkley said.
“I don’t think it’s a total loss, but I don’t think it’s habitable right now,” he said.
The homeowner wasn’t immediately available for comment. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters from the Central, West Lakes, and Houston departments responded to the scene.
