WASILLA — An Anchorage man was jailed Tuesday after Alaska State Troopers say he cut a man in Wasilla with a knife.
George F. Madros III, 28, was jailed on one count of assault. Troopers say he wounded Collins Avessuk, possibly after an argument regarding Madros’ wallet.
According to an affidavit trooper Amy Bowen filed in the case against Madros, troopers were first called to respond to the home on Settlers Bay Drive at 1:23 a.m. on Tuesday.
“The caller, who was identified as Collins Avessuk, stated that his hand was all red and that he needed police,” Bowen wrote in her affidavit.
On scene, Bowen wrote, she talked to Avessuk, who was lying in bed with his hands covered in blood, drunk and smelling of booze.
“Collins Avessuk stated that he didn’t know where the blood from his hands was from. Collins Avessuk was uncooperative and would not tell me what happened,” Bowen wrote.
As Avessuk sat up, Bowen wrote, she noticed an inch-long wound in the middle of his back. It looked like a stab wound, the trooper wrote.
While Bowen was inside the house, two other troopers stopped a man walking down the road about a quarter of a mile away. The man turned out to be Madros and he had blood on his hands and shirt.
“Madros stated that it was ketchup and old blood from shaving that morning,” Bowen wrote. Later, Madros told troopers it was Avessuk’s blood.
According to the affidavit, Madros told troopers that he and Avessuk had been hanging out in Avessuk’s garage earlier that night. Avessuk asked to see Madros’ wallet, then wouldn’t give it back, Bowen wrote, based on Madros’ statements.
“Madros tried to scare Avessuk with his knife. Madros stated the knife got too close and he cut Avessuk in the back one time,” Bowen wrote.
Madros told Bowen he gathered up his things and left as Avessuk called 911.
Troopers found a two-inch folding knife in a pouch on Madros’ belt, Bowen wrote. He was arrested and jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility on $500 bail. Prison records Wednesday afternoon showed he was still there.
As for Avessuk, he “was transported by ambulance to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for his injuries where he refused to give any further details of the incident,” Bowen wrote.
