BIG LAKE — One person died in an early morning fire in Big Lake on Sunday.
Alaska State Troopers report that troopers and West Lakes Fire Service Area Fire Department personnel responded at 4:16 a.m. to a blaze at a house at 3019 South Horseshoe Lake Road.
“Despite efforts to extringuis the blaze, the home was completely destroyed,” the report says. “During a search of the home after the fire was extinguised, the remains of a person were discovered in the living room area.”
The remains were to be transported to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for positive identification, the report says. The identiy of the victim has not been released pending confirmation from the state ME. It’s believed the deceased was the only person who live at the home.
The cause of the fire has not been released, and personnel from Mat-Su Borough Emergency Services, state Fire Marshall’s Office and ME’s office are investigating.
