Opinion page change is for the best

To the editor,

I would like state my appreciation for your positive changes to the editorial page recently in an apparent reach for an expression of opinion that is more broadly representative of our Valley population. Specifically, I commend the elimination of the Legge “cartoons” that were not only always leftist and socialist in content but also mostly just simple slander. We can indeed do better. At least half of such contributions should include views other than the leftist perspective.

I notice the liberal crowd has begun to attack you for your simple reach for some balance. It is amazing that the folks yelling loudest for “tolerance” in our culture have so little tolerance for any other views. I have long wondered why the liberal crowd is so incensed by the simple expression of another opinion on any level approximating equal time.

I hope you are able to weather the storm of complaint that seems to have whipped up over the simple possibility of some new expression of non-liberal (and hopefully non-slanderous) views in your opinion sections. It does seem wise to many of us that the liberal slander should at least endure some level of reduced presence in our only local newspaper. Thanks for having the “intestinal fortitude” to attempt a balance of opinion expression.
