The Matanuska Susitna Orchestra and the Mat-Su Community Chorus are delighted to announce their upcoming collaborating concert, Sweet Sounding Synergy, Sunday, Feb. 12 at 3 p.m., at the Glenn Massay Theater. Orchestra fans and choral enthusiasts are invited to attend this unprecedented event, hopefully to become a standard.
The program consists of separate performances by both orchestra and chorus with the two groups combining to render Robert Frost's, Choose Something Like a Star, from Randall Thompson's 1958, Frostiana and James Curnow's, Music Shall Live.
Kate Patterson will conduct the Orchestra in Holst's 1928, Moorside Suite, in three movements, Samuel Barber's, Adagio for Strings, Edvard Grieg's, Last Spring and additional orchestral pieces. Anna Crowther will direct the Chorus in Bach's, Jesu, Joy of Man's Desire, Brahm's, In Stiller Nacht, Bye Bye Blackbird, by Ray Henderson, two spirituals, and several other audience pleasers. These two groups are steadfast, non-profit organizations here in The Valley, supporting the community and have entertained generations of music goes.
This concert is graciously provided free to the public with requests for donations. Proceeds will be presented to the Palmer Arts Council for their Summer Arts Camps. These summer programs introduce youngsters to the theatrical arts, with an emphasis on hands-on learning the full spectrum that theater has to offer, and an intensive six week band program.
Here's an idea of how to spend a mid-winter's afternoon; come join the Orchestra and Chorus at the Glenn Massay Theater, on the Mat-Su, UAA campus, Sunday, Feb. 12, at 3pm. This is an event you will want to catch, to warm the heart and cheer the soul on a chilly day.
