WASILLA — Cooper Hanson scored the overtime game-winner to lead the Wasilla Warriors to a 5-4 victory over rival Colony Saturday at the Brett Memorial Ice Arena in Wasilla.
Hanson, with help from senior Brett Keene, put a puck into the net with 3:43 left in the extra period to help Wasilla finish the regular season with a perfect 10-0-0 record in North Star Conference play. The Warriors enter the upcoming conference tourney, which starts Thursday in Wasilla, as the top seed.
Colton Fletcher bagged a pair of goals and an assist for Wasilla. Fletcher scored shorthanded and on the power play. Tanner Schachle also scored for WHS.
Jonathon Boyer led the Knights with two goals and one assist. Morgan McJimsey added a goal and two assists for the Knights.
Colony, which beat Palmer 3-0 on Friday, finishes the regular season 4-4-2, and is locked in a third-place tie with Homer.
The Knights and Mariners split their two-game regular season series, and the third seed in the upcoming tournament will be determined by a series of tiebreakers.
Soldotna (4-2-4) is the No. 2 seed in the tourney. Kenai and Palmer are seeded fifth and sixth respectively.
Friday, Boyer notched a hat trick during a 3-0 win over Palmer. Boyer has scored seven goals against the Moose this year. He had four during a 5-4 overtime win early in the season.
