Honolulu, Hawaii — A blackout that plunged all of Oahu, Hawaii, into darkness Friday night also killed the buzz surrounding the Wasilla High School boys basketball game against Punahou High School in the Merv Lopes Holiday Classic held in Honolulu.
Wasilla Activities Director Paul Cossette said there was a rumor that president-elect Barack Obama, who is a graduate of Punahou and also happens to be vacationing on Oahu, may attend the game. But Friday’s power outage caused the game to be rescheduled to Saturday morning.
Cossette said that he hasn’t heard any updates from the team about its game Saturday, and calls to head coach Ryan Engebresten were not returned by press time. According to the Honolulu Advertiser, as of noon Saturday, power had been restored to two-thirds of the island.
