The first registered shoot of the year is part of the 100 Bird Walk Through Sporting Clays Shoot and Super Bowl Party on Sunday. There are several new target presentations for shooters to try. Flights are at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. and costs $65, or $55 for juniors age 18 and younger. The event is for shooters of all ages and abilities. After shooting, relax and enjoy the game on the big screen, with kickoff at 2:30 p.m.

Following this weekend’s Super Bowl shoot, the club will host a Couples Fun Shoot and Valentine’s Day Dinner on Feb. 12. Shooting starts at 4 p.m., with dinner at 5:30. Cost is $45 per couple for the shoot and $45 per person for dinner. Price per couple for both shooting and dinner is $130. For information or to RSVP to either event, call Arlene at 376-2473.

Ladies Night at Sportsman’s

Sportsman’s Warehouse will host another Ladies Night event from 7 to 9 p.m., Feb. 10. The event will feature carnival-style games, activities and product discounts, as well as a variety of giveaways and drawings for merchandise, outings and trips. The event is co-sponsored by Devery Prince Allstate Agency and KMBQ 99.7 radio.

WDMA hosting mid-distance race

Willow Dog Mushers Association is offering its first middle-distance race today, the Willow-Tug 300, a qualifier for the Iditarod and Yukon Quest. Organizers will limit the field to 30 teams and post veteran mushers at checkpoints to help rookies. Several Iditarod veterans including hometown musher DeeDee Jonrowe have signed up. Birders to meet

The next meeting of the Mat-Su birders will be at 7 p.m., Feb. 9 in the meeting room of the Palmer Public Library.

Kids can ice fish Saturday

An ice-fishing derby for kids is set for Knik Lake from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday. Children ages 3 to 16 are invited to participate. Cost is $10 and proceeds benefit the Alaska Make-A-Wish Foundation. For more information, call 715-4435.

Great outdoors calls for Valley women

An “Outdoors Women” workshop is March 11-13 at Victory Bible Camp near Palmer. The program introduces women to hunting, fishing and related outdoors activities. More than 48 hands-on sessions are scheduled, including firearms safety, bear safety, shotgun clinics, field dressing of fish and game, ice fishing, spin fishing, fly tying, dog mushing, snowmachining, cross country skiing, snowshoeing, GPS operation, fish smoking, rod building, outdoors photography and winter survival. Annual hunting banquet scheduled

The 14th annual Hunting Heritage Banquet is at the Anchorage Hilton Hotel at 4:30 p.m., Feb. 12. The National Wild Turkey Federation, Alaska Tundra Toms chapter is sponsoring the event.

Mount Marathon applications accepted

Applications for the 84th running of the Mount Marathon race in Seward during the July Fourth holiday will be accepted through March 31. Race veterans and 2010 finishers have priority, with the remaining slots filled through a lottery system.

Lottery results will be announced mid-April. Applications are online at seward.com. Cost is $45 for adults and $25 for juniors. For more information, call 224-8051.
