Attention Mat-Su drivers! Wasilla-Fishhook Road will be closed overnight to vehicles and pedestrians at East Olga Circle from 8 p.m. Saturday, Sept 13 to 8 a.m. Sunday, September 14 as crews complete necessary roadwork.

A detour is going to be available for vehicles and pedestrians on Mariah Drive, Charley Drive, and Caribou Street.

Before the closure, drivers should expect one-lane traffic with flaggers and pilot car operations starting Friday, September 12.

During the closure, crews will be installing an 84-inch pipe under the road to improve drainage in the area. In total, crews will be placing over 80 feet of pipe at this location!

This work is part of the Wasilla-Fishhook Road Pavement Preservation Project being done by the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF) as crews work to resurface Wasilla Fishhook Road in Wasilla from East Seldon Road to East Tex-Al Drive.

The proposed project will reclaim the existing pavement structure in place, overlay with new pavement, and apply pavement markings to the roadway. Guardrail, roadway shoulder repairs, drainage improvements, sign replacements, and grubbing will also be included when needed.

The project, estimated to cost approximately $8M, is working to extend the service life of Wasilla Fishhook Road, reduce ongoing maintenance costs, and adjust ditch grading and culverts such that the roadway will have proper drainage. The proposed improvements will be constructed within existing right-of-way.
