Paint Nights with Sara held a painting event at Settlers Bay Golf Course Thursday, July 28.

“I absolutely love it. It’s so much fun,” Settlers Bay Golf Course event and sales coordinator Vicky Howe said.

Paint Nights with Sara owner Sara Squartsoff-McKinley led a step-by-step paint session focusing on cherry blossoms with acrylic paint.

“It was great. It’s always a blast coming out here. It’s one of our favorite locations in the summertime. Everybody’s always happy to come out here and paint,” Squartsoff-McKinley said.

Paint Nights with Sara has been offering $30 courses all summer instead of the normal $47 rate.

“It’s been a pretty good summer,” Squartsoff-McKinley said.

Squartsoff-McKinley said that she offers paint night sessions at various businesses, veterans organizations, community groups, and other venues across the Mat-Su Valley and even beyond on some occasions. She said they’ve held a fundraising event for the Eagle River Chamber of Commerce during the Bearpaw Festival for the last five years.

“Anytime anybody’s interested and sends us an email, we try and make it work,” Squartsoff-McKinley said.

Howe said they’ve partnered with Paint Nights with Sara for the last few years and having outlets like that has really helped them continue to diversify their range of options when it comes to community events at the golf course. She said they’re also expanding the deck and outdoor area to accommodate the growing interest in concerts and other activities held on the grounds.

“It’s always neat to work with other businesses in the community and bring other stuff to the golf course,” Howe said. “We’re all for it. It’s a great feeling to cater and provide so much more than our core, which is golf because we are so much more than a golf course.”

Howe said they’re currently preparing to hold the first Trick or Treat in the Heat event since the pandemic started. She said all the other locations including the main event in Anchorage were canceled. She said it’s great to have the opportunity to hold more public events again.

“Overall, I’m excited. We’re just hoping to continue that,” Howe said. “We’ve got a lot of cool stuff going on.”
