FAIRVIEW — They were there arresting a man on a warrant and would have left with just him, but a car showed up at the wrong time and Alaska State Troopers made two arrests instead of one.
According to an AST press release, at 4:50 p.m., Sunday an anonymous tip came in that people in a house on St. Elias Circle in the Fairview Loop area were wanted on warrants.
Troopers showed up and talked to Benjamin S. Crafton, 20, of Wasilla. They say he was hiding when they found him.
Crafton was arrested on a warrant for failure to appear in court on a driving without insurance charge. As troopers were leaving the house, a 1998 Mazda sedan drove up and saw them.
“Upon seeing troopers (the sedan) fled at a high rate of speed. Troopers observed the vehicle commit multiple moving violations and conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Fairview Loop near Harness Road,” according to the press release.
A passenger in the car, Ian A. Stormont, 18, of Wasilla, was arrested for drug misconduct after troopers say they found “a user’s amount of hashish oil” on him.
Both Crafton and Stormont were jailed at the Mat-Su Pre-Trial Facility. As of Monday afternoon, both had made bail and been released.
