WASILLA — A pair of Colony swimmers earned runner-up finishes during the Soldotna Pentathlon Sept. 23 in Soldotna.

Camille Dayton used a total time of 3 minutes, 5.85 seconds to place second in the girls’ class. Jake Simmons was second in the boys’ class with a total time of 2:38.36.

The annual pentathlon features each swimmer competing in five events — the 100-yard individual medley, 50 butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 breaststroke and 50 freestyle — and the owner of the fastest combined time is crowned champion.

Kodiak swept the titles, with Talon Lindquist winning the boys’ class and Marina Cumminskey finishing first in the girls.

This marks the third straight year that Lindquist and Simmons have finished first and second in the boys’ pentathlon standings.

Dayton was one of a trio of Knights to place in the top 10 to help the Knights win the girls’ pentathlon team title. Alexis Mattson (3:13.70) was seventh and Madeline Vig (3:16.16) finished ninth. A pair of Palmer swimmers also placed in the girls’ top 10. Gretchen Snelders (3:07.47) was fourth and Ashtyn Peterson (3:15.71) placed eighth.

Max Snelders led the Palmer boys (2:41.72) with a fourth-place finish.
