Pair of Knights place in top 3 of West tourney

ANCHORAGE — Scott Knighten and Wade Booth each notched top-3 finishes during the West Anchorage Christmas Classic at West Anchorage High on Saturday.

Knighten advanced to the finals and finished second in the 182-pound class. Chugiak’s Garrett Morrison pinned Knighten at the 3:50 mark of the match.

Knighten recorded a pair of wins by pin en route to the finals, beating Service’s Hunter Graham and Juneau’s Jerry Hudson.

Booth finished third at 113. He won his first two matches of the tournament, but suffered a loss to Service’s Alex Nanez — the state’s second-ranked wrestler at 113 — in the semifinals.

Booth recorded consecutive wins, including a 5-1 victory over Kodiak’s Lucas Fried in the third-place match.

Colony’s Spencer Adams also advanced to the third-place match at 126, but the result of that match was not included in the tournament results.

Colony, which entered only a handful of wrestlers in the tournament, finished eighth in the team standings with 41 points.
