Palin stalker incarcerated again

ANCHORAGE — A Pennsylvania man convicted of harassing then-governor Sarah Palin’s lawyers received a two-year sentence Wednesday on charges he violated his probation.

Shawn Christy, 21, of McAdoo, Penn., was sentenced to two years with credit for time served in jail awaiting sentencing. Once he’s finally released he’ll be on probation for another year, according to documents signed by U.S. District Court Judge Timothy Burgess.

That probation will run concurrent to five years of probation he’s been sentenced to on his harassment charges.

Christy allegedly made multiple harassing phone calls to Palin’s lawyers, including threats of violence and rape. His father, Craig Christy, received federal jail time for similar threats left on voicemails at the Fairbanks law offices.

After he served his time and was released on the harassment charges, the younger Christy caused a ruckus at a halfway house after getting caught with contraband.

“Of particular concern was his possession of a cellular telephone charger, which implied the existence of a hidden cellular telephone; possession of a cellular telephone would have been a serious violation of his conditions of his probation,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Retta-Rae Randall wrote in a court filing.

After demanding the contraband back, Randall wrote, Christy kicked a large bottle of soda down some stairs and then vandalized his room and took off, according to court filings. He was found soon after at his parents’ house.

“Where else could he go? His dysfunctional family is all he has ever known,” Randall wrote.

When U.S. Marshalls knocked on his door, Christy bolted. A Marshall was injured as a result and Christy is also facing an unresolved assaulting an officer charge, according to another case listed in federal databases.

“Christy needs to be incarcerated — he needs to face the consequences of his behavior. He also needs mental health counseling. He is an angry young man with little impulse control and no respect for rules, the courts or the law,” Randall wrote.
