I wanted you, the good people of Wasilla, to know why a special needs mom in Wellesley, Mass., loves your Sarah.
I did not think I would be voting for McCain until I saw Sarah Palin announced as his running mate. When she stood on stage with her with her family, holding Trig in her arms front and center, I was literally moved to tears. Within moments I went from an Independent voter who supported Obama in the Massachusetts primary to a strong McCain/Palin supporter. I, too, am the mother of a special needs child.
I believe Governor Palin has done more for persons with disabilities in the weeks she has been with John McCain than our Congress or the U.S. Justice system could ever hope to accomplish. We cannot legislate compassion. We cannot legislate love, acceptance and kindness. That is a matter of the heart. We must live it, and hopefully teach others by our example.
And oh, what an example is our Sarah Palin.
I drove up to New Hampshire to attend her rally last week. When she spoke of persons with special needs during her speech I screamed out, “Thank you, Sarah!” She pivoted around and looked right at me! Our eyes met. I motioned giving her my heart in my hands. She gave me two thumbs up, but it was the look in her eyes and the fact that she cared enough to look into mine that moved me most.
Sarah Palin is the real thing. Thank you for sharing your governor with the rest of our country.
