PALMER — Palmer Alehouse is midway through its outdoor concert series.

This weekend features live performances by Matt Hopper and the Eternal Cowboys. Palmer Alehouse owner Cory Hughes said the weather has affected the turnout for some shows but overall, this year’s music series has been going really well.

“We have music rain or shine,” Hughes said.

In addition to live music, there will also be a cornhole tournament at the Palmer Alehouse this weekend. Hughes said the tournament is a fundraising event for the Palmer High School hockey team, and it may turn into an annual event. He said that it’s important to their team to support the community wherever they can.

“It’s just part of being in the community,” Hughes said.

Hughes said they’re taking a break from the live music during the 2022 Alaska State Fair season. He said they will resume in September and finish up in October. He said they plan to use that time to remodel the outdoor recreation area near the stage, adding to the overall appeal of their scenic venue with rolling mountains in the background.

“You can’t beat our location,” Hughes said.

Once the outdoor music series concludes, the Palmer Alehouse will transition into the indoor acoustic series in the upstairs lounge throughout the winter, keeping the beat going all year long. Hughes said that live music and the Alehouse go hand in hand, and they plan to keep highlighting local artists across various capacities.

“It’s kind of what our identity has become,” Hughes said.

The Matt Hopper and The Roman Candles concert starts at 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, and the Eternal Cowboys concert starts at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 30.

The cornhole tournament starts at 12 p.m. Saturday, July 30.
