PALMER — Every week presents the chance for community members to attend live acoustic performances put on by local musicians at the Palmer Alehouse through its annual indoor concert series.

The indoor concert series typically starts during the first week of October following the final outdoor wave of outdoor concerts. Live performances take place within the Upstairs Lounge where guests can enjoy food and drinks while listening to the local artists.

"It's great," Palmer Alehouse owner Cory Hughes said. "Outside, it's a different vibe. Upstairs, it's more intimate. We have a much more personal interaction with the crowd… I think both the artists and the people attending enjoy that aspect."

A wide variety of local musicians spanning multiple genres participate in the indoor series each year. Hughes said it's an opportunity for both established and up and coming musical acts to showcase their talents. Acts such as Nervis Rex, Roland Roberts, John Cook, LuLu Small, I Like Robots, H3, and Blackwater Railroad have taken to the stage.

"It's a really kind of win-win for everybody," Hughes said.

The Palmer Alehouse also holds numerous paid events in the Upstairs Lounge for big name Alaskan acts such as the Ken Peltier Band throughout the indoor concert series. Various musicians from the Lower 48 also make appearances.

"It's awesome," Hughes said.

Hughes said they're already working on the summer concert schedule which kicks off in May. He said it's exciting to host local talent throughout the year.

"We're just glad to be able to provide some local music to everybody," Hughes said. "We've become so associated with the local music scene here. It's cool to be able to continue that. A big part of our identity is the music."

The Palmer Alehouse's general operations have been faring well, according to Hughes. He said they have a great team and a lot of people coming through their doors. He said he's thankful for the continued public interest and support.

"It's the local community that keeps us alive for sure," Hughes said.

Palmer Alehouse indoor concerts take place every Thursday starting at 6 p.m.

Zen Trembles, a local experimental alternative rock trio is set to perform Jan. 4 as the first show of 2024.
