PALMER — The summer of construction has carried over into the fall, as Department of Transportation crews ramp up their activity following their hiatus during the Alaska State Fair.
Construction in front of City Hall in Palmer has already begun, and Moore Road will be closed for at least one day. On Sept. 29, crews will begin paving Dogwood Avenue, Evergreen Avenue, and Arctic Avenue with evening paving work. On the Glenn Highway, crews will be working between Commercial Drive and Crimson View Drive daily between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., and drivers should be aware of double fines in those areas. Commercial drive has been reconfigured with a right lane in and out approach. Drivers turning left off of the Glenn Highway must always use Colony Way or East Springer Loop. DOT Project Engineer for the Glenn Highway Widening Project said that the completion of work in 2019 will result in traffic signals at four intersections with the first lift of pavement done before the snow reaches the Valley floor and crews conclude their work for the year.
