Owen Hayes is no stranger to scoring during the extra period. Hayes scored the game-winner in overtime during the 2019 Division II state championship game. Saturday, Hayes struck again during extra time.
Hayes scored about two minutes into the extra period to lift the Moose to a 3-2 win over Juneau at the MTA Events Center in Palmer. Hayes helped Palmer beat the Crimson Bears for the second time in three days. Palmer bested Juneau 3-0 Jan. 16.
Hayes also assisted on the goal that forced overtime. Zach Nelius scored with 5:11 left in the third to tie the score at 2. Alex Nelius gave the Moose an early lead with a first-period goal.
