Palmer boy elected to top Scouting post

A Palmer boy was recently elected as chief of the Order of the Arrow's Nanuk Lodge for the Western Alaska Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Justin Kaucic of Palmer earned the prestigious position. The Order of the Arrow is Boy Scouting's honor society, and Nanuk Lodge has 400 adult and youth members around Southcentral Alaska.

Kaucic recently attended lodge leadership training sessions in Seattle and Portland. He will be returning to Seattle later this month to represent the lodge and participate in a national leadership seminar.

Kaucic is a 16-year-old Eagle Scout with two palms.

He is registered with Boy Scout Troop 367, where he serves as senior patrol leader. He is the commander of the troop's "Green Mountain Boys" colonial-era color guard.

Kaucic is a junior who is a home-school student enrolled in the IDEA program. He also is a member of the Palmer Polar Bears swim team and the Sons of the American Legion.

His other community service includes training youth and adult Scout leaders.
