Palmer boys edge Colony in Mat-Su Mini track meet

PALMER — The Palmer Moose boys edged rival Colony by just a point to finish first in the Mat-Su Mini track and field meet Tuesday at Palmer High School.

Vincent Aumavae and Brady Southwick each notched individual wins for the Moose, who also won the 3,200-meter relay. Aumavae was first in the 100, while Southwick finished first in the 110 hurdles.

Brandon Nicholson (400), Christian Sessom (3,200) and Fischer Summers (discus) won individual events for Colony.

Matt Barron led the Houston Hawks with a win in the long jump.

In girls’ action, a pair of Valley siblings dominated the running events. Colony junior Peggy Mathis finished first in the 100 and 400. Wasilla freshman Alex Mathis, Peggy’s younger sister, finished first in the 3,200. Colony finished first in the girls’ team standings with 152, more than 100 points ahead of runner-up Palmer.
