Palmer falls to tourney host

SEATTLE — The Palmer Moose suffered a 50-26 loss to Roosevelt Roughriders, the host of the 2008 Roosevelt Holiday Festival, in Seattle, Wash., on Wednesday.

The Moose faced Curtis (Wash.) on Thursday, but results were unavailable prior to press time.

Roosevelt has been the home to one of Washington’s strongest girls basketball programs, and gained national attention following the acclaimed documentary, “The Heart of the Game.”

The tournament continues through Saturday.

Houston finishes eighth in California tournament

SAN DIEGO — The Houston Hawks finished in eighth place of the Surf ‘N’ Slam Tournament at University High School in San Diego, Calif., late last month.

The Hawks opened with a 66-15 loss to Ballard (Wash.), the squad that would eventually win the tournament. In the second round, David Douglas (Ore.) handed the Hawks a 65-28 defeat. Lodi (Calif.) beat Houston 64-22 in the seventh-place game.

Moose suffer loss in Arizona tournament

MESA — The Palmer Moose opened the Phoenix Union High School Tournament with a 69-59 loss to Trevor Browne (Ariz.) at Gilbert High School in Mesa, Ariz., on Wednesday.

The tournament continues through Saturday.
