Palmer boys score win over West Valley

PALMER — With seven games during the final 10 days of the regular season, the Palmer Moose knew they’d be tested.

Friday, the Moose answered the challenge and came through with a 64-61 nonconference victory over West Valley at Palmer High School.

“It was a great win, a good win for their confidence,” Palmer head coach Brandon Blake said.

The Moose erased an early-fourth quarter deficit and scored 23 points during the final period to earn their second straight victory, and third in four games.

“We really weathered the storm, made some big stops on defense,” Blake said.

The Moose also had some big buckets in the final quarter. Freshman Clayton Southwick scored eight of his game-high 22 points in the fourth. Sophomore Tye Ramoth added seven of his 21 points in the final frame.

“Both tie and Clayton made a lot of baskets for us,” Blake said.

Blake also credited guards Jesse Snickers and James Blake for distributed the ball to the shooters.

“We really shared the ball well. Snickers had a high number of assists for us. James had a high number of assists. Both broke the press, and distributed the ball really well,” Brandon Blake said.

Snickers and James Blake also combined for 13 points.

Tyrone Peterson led West Valley with 20 points. Daniel Hornbuckle added 18.

In girls’ action, West Valley beat Palmer 77-44. Ruthy Hebard led the Wolfpack with 32 points. West Valley improved to 23-0 with the win.
