Palmer boys sweep Kodiak

KODIAK — Throughout the 2015-16 season, Palmer head coach Chuck Martin has said his Moose have the ability to play great defense with a lead.

Friday, the Moose did exactly what their coach has been talking about.

After racing to an early advantage, Palmer clamped down on the defensive end and scored a 39-24 victory over Kodiak at Kodiak High School.

Palmer knocked down five three-pointers during its 17-point first quarter. Michael Kluting hit a pair of threes and scored eight of his game-high 18 points in the first frame. Payton Martin, Brady Southwick and Clayton Southwick also hit three-pointers during the first eight minutes. Palmer allowed only two points in the first quarter, and held Kodiak to single digits in scoring in each of the first three quarters. Kodiak only had three points in the third.

Clayton Southwick added a dozen points for the Moose.

Palmer completed the two-game series sweep with a 47-34 victory on Saturday.

The Moose hit 10 threes en route to improving to 4-3 in Northern Lights Conference play. Kluting knocked down a trio of three-pointers, and led Palmer with a game-high 19 points. Brady Southwick led the Moose with four three-pointers in the game, and scored a dozen. Martin added a pair of three-pointers, and scored 10.

Palmer did not allow a field goal to the Bears during the second quarter.
