Palmer boys, Wasilla girls continue to roll

The Palmer Moose improved to 17-5 overall and 9-0 in Region III play with a pair of road wins on the Kenai Peninsula over the weekend.

Palmer opened the weekend with a 52-35 win over Kenai on Friday. Stanley Ratcliff scored 16 points to lead Palmer. The Moose outscored Kenai 33-18 in the second half. With the win, Palmer earned the Region III title.

On Saturday, the Moose followed with a 68-28 drubbing of Soldotna. Five players hit double digits for Palmer, while the Moose defense did not allow Soldotna to hit double digits in any quarter.

Kurtis Devon led all scorers with 16 points.

Wasilla girls sweep Kodiak

Chandice Cronk scored 56 points in two games to lead the Wasilla Warriors to a series sweep over Kodiak at Wasilla High School.

Cronk scored 33 points in a 65-25 win on Friday, and 23 in a 63-23 win on Saturday.

Wasilla improved to 17-2 overall and 8-0 in Region III.

Warrior boys split

Wasilla split a two-game series with visiting Kodiak at Wasilla High School over the weekend.

The Warriors earned a 54-49 win over the Bears on Friday, led by a 16-point effort from Matt Crane. Wasilla used an 18-12 run in the fourth quarter to seal the game.

Kodiak spoiled Wasilla's hope of the sweep with a 44-38 win on Saturday. Ben Nehr led the Warriors with 12 points.

Fourth quarter effort leads Moose

Palmer used a 13-1 fourth quarter run to defeat Kenai 43-29 at Kenai High School on Friday.

Emily Bolling scored seven of her game-high 17 points in the final frame. The stingy Moose defense allowed just 11 Kardinal field goals.

Duo leads Knight boys to win

Colony juniors Justin Schwartzbauer and Rhett Magner combined for 40 points to lead the Knights to a 64-49 win over Kenai at Kenai High School on Saturday.

Schwartzbauer scored a game-high 24 and Magner added 16.

Knight girls top Kenai

Kristina Klapperich scored 17 points to lead the Colony Knights to a 58-26 win over Kenai on Saturday.

Jessica Dault added 11 points for Colony.

Hawks rally for win

Houston rallied for a 39-35 win over Nikiski at Nikiski High School on Saturday.

Whitney Conn led the Hawks with 12 points.

Taylor leads Nikiski over Houston

Jeremiah Taylor scored 23 points to lead the Nikiski Bulldogs to a 60-41 win over Houston at Nikiski High School on Saturday.
