Calling all fruit—The Bleeding Heart Brewery on Outer Springer Loop is concocting a delicious drink which includes everyone’s apples and berries. Bring your Fruit to the Palmer brewery and they say they will make it worth your while!!

Palmer flowers still blooming—Over at the flower farms in Palmer, we still have fresh flowers raising their little brave faces to the autumn sun and rain. They are hopeful still. Misty VanderWeele tells us that dahlias are considered the Queen of Autumn because they bloom right up until the first frost. Plus she has chocolate dahlias, which smell as good as they look.

Palmer plastic bag discussion—The Palmer City Council has no official stance on banning the plastic bags—yet. However city councilwoman Linda Combs is asking for council support to place the plastic bag question on an October agenda. Linda put the question out there several weeks ago and had a large response from over 250 commenters. The majority seemed in favor of replacing those icky bags with a better solution. Interestingly store cashiers are some of the most vocal opponents to the flimsy plastic bag. Wasilla is also looking at this discussion.

Lost dogs, pigs and peacocks—It seems animals feel pretty free to roam in our community and it is a darn good thing that we track them down, post their whereabouts and connect them with their family. Over the last month we’ve seen doggies, pigs, one peacock, two horses and one wayward cow make its way to home sweet home.

Shredding the Cabbage—So Friday night is the big Radio Free Palmer fundraising event at the Glenn Massay Theater, with the Super Saturated Sugar Strings and a meal by the Laughing Raven Catering. Great music and slow roasted brisket, colcannon, cole slaw and sheet cake. Plus Palmer Arkose beer. What a great night!!! Pick up your tickets at Fireside bookstore or online.

Solar turkey—Yep, that is Turkey Red Restaurant in Palmer and they are about to have commercial solar power on main street.

Palmer gets prettied again—The front windows along main street have hand painted lovelies on them, again, just in time for the fall festivals. Audra Reger is the talented window painter that transforms Palmer’s main street windows into community art. She does the holiday windows at the Senior Center. Everyone thinks the windows make a great statement.

Serve yourself a big helping of some Palmer history—Go to the Moose Lodge Wednesday night to hear Dr. Alex Hills talk about history. He is a great speaker and story teller. This is part of the Palmer Historical Society’s ongoing programs which happily dredge up the past. It is free and usually there are some tasty cookies at the program.
